At the time of his passing, John was a resident of Westlake Rehab and Nursing Center in Greeley. Earlier in life, he attended Gomer Elementary School and Elida High School in Ohio. During his school years, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America and proudly served as team manager for the Elida Varsity basketball team.
After completing school, John moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where he spent most of his life, with brief stays in Omaha, Nebraska, and Rush Springs, Oklahoma. Determined to further his education, he earned his GED, graduated from HVAC trade school, and later obtained a technical degree in AutoCAD.
John had a deep love for sports and was a devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Cincinnati Reds. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, including drinking coffee, eating butterscotch pudding, and sipping cherry Kool-Aid. He loved fishing, panning for gold, and studying history—especially World War II. When illness limited his activities, he found joy in building train sets, assembling model rockets, and playing his guitar.
One of John’s cherished memories was traveling with his beloved wife to attend the 2002 Winter Olympics in Utah. He also had a special love for his cats, which brought him much comfort over the years.
John is survived by his sisters, Joanne (Jason) Miller of Glen Haven, Colorado, and Jackie (Dale) Newport of Elida, Ohio. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Nick Faurot and his partner Sheri Kellner of Marlow, Oklahoma; Steven (Jamie) Faurot of Palm City, Florida; and Anthony Faurot of Gilroy, California. He leaves behind seven grandchildren—Chance, Chaley, Johnathan, Jaxson, Quinn, Parker, and Clark Faurot—as well as his nieces and nephews, Kristy, Curtis, Sadie, and Jakob.
Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sheree Lynn Coe, and his daughter, Danielle Jolene Major.
John will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for sports and history, and the many simple joys that filled his life. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Sheree, and daughter, Danielle.
