

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10am on Friday, September 5, 2025 at Allnutt Funeral Service-Hunter Chapel, 2100 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland, CO 80538. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3400 28th St., Greeley, CO 80634 and then all are invited to return to Allnutt Funeral Service-Hunter Chapel for a reception.
John was born on October 6, 1944 in Greeley, CO to John Elliott and Patricia Nelson. He grew up in Johnstown, CO, and attended Roosevelt High School. After High School John proudly served in the United States Army from June 16, 1966 until he was honorably discharged on June 14, 1968.
John returned home where he moved to Longmont, CO and worked at Hewitt Packard. He later moved to Loveland, CO where he worked for Eastman Kodak for 22 years. He ventured off on a few other business ventures for a few years before retiring from Thompson School District in 2023.
John loved playing basketball with his friends, and he was also a runner. But what John really enjoyed the most was his two classic cars, the 56 Chevy and the 66 Valiant. He could spend hours in his garage just tinkering on them or just admiring them. He also enjoyed going to the Mile High Nationals, Drag Races, and the Kearney Race Track where he raced many of times. Although he usually left there needing to fix something else on the 56 Chevy. He also loved his Colorado football. He had Bronco and CU Buff season tickets for a long time and would enjoy going to the games with his son’s and family.
Survivors include his children, Rhonda Adler of Mead,CO, Ryan Nelson of Windsor, CO, Randy Nelson and wife Jenny Nelson of Kearney, NE: 8 grandchildren, Zach and wife Shannon Boguslawski, Josh and wife Jordan Nelson, Jordan Nelson, Tessa and husband Jake Critel, Alyssia and husband Mike Malmberg, Paige, Akeisha, Megan, and Laci Nelson: 4 great grandchildren, Mckinley Stewart, Maxwell Malmberg, Clayton Critel, and Tate Malmberg, a sister Judy and husband Dale Pralle, a brother Jeff and wife Christy Nelson also his special friends Jeremy and wife Shawn Brunner, and Jimmy Turtscher
John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Jean Esser.
