Krysta Kathleen Dettmann Yount was born September 28, 1993, in Aurora, Colorado. Her parents, Kathy and Gary, waited 4 long years for their little blessing, Krysta. Her brother, Devan, arrived near her 5th birthday. She loved her baby brother and they could be found playing hockey at the roller rink or playing Rock Band in the living room. Their bond has grown stronger as they have grown up, and she became a great role model for him.
Krysta graduated from Golden High School in 2012. She then earned her Associate Degree in 2015, and her Bachelor’s Degree in 2017. Her major was in Technical Communications (emphasis in videography) with a minor in Sports Media.
She loved the Colorado Avalanche and dreamed of a career with them. While in college, she landed a couple of jobs that would get her to the Pepsi Center, known as The Can, as often as possible. She worked for Altitude Sports as part of the Street Team hosting fan interaction games and handing out swag. She also got a job producing a sports talk show for Mile High Sports that aired on Comcast, where the host lamented, on air, that Krysta had more Twitter followers than he had. Krysta was a beloved member of Twitter “Avs Fam” and made dozens of lifelong friends over the years. She met up with fellow Avs fans from all over the world, including all around the United States and even the UK. She was known for her quick wit, her hockey knowledge, and her love of the team.
Krysta came to use all the skills she’d acquired from college, and those she gained while doing jobs at The Can to come into her true dream job. She started as the Receptionist and worked her way up to Service Administrator, until she was offered a huge promotion to Marketing Coordinator for Power Equipment Company. She found a job she loved and was meant for. She became an invaluable resource and was a rising star in the company.
Krysta dreamed about traveling and was able to spend time in Paris while she was in college. She was also able to visit Chicago with her cousin and her friend, attend an Avs game in Vegas on a special birthday trip with just her and her dad, and make many trips to Wyoming for girls’ weekends with her best friend. She loved snorkeling in Mexico, and spent many vacations in Montana visiting family. She loved the outdoors and took off to Georgetown Lake to fish as often as she could, taking her cousins along for the ride.
Krysta also loved music, and often sang and played the ukulele. She had a successful photography business and helping others document life’s milestones was a passion of Krysta’s. Krysta was hilarious, spontaneous, and tender hearted. And of course, she was so happy to see the Avs win the Stanley Cup this year.
Krysta met the love of her life, Reed, after stumbling upon a picture of him posted by her cousin, Cameron. It was love at first sight and meant to be. The two got engaged in the great outdoors, where they both loved to be. They were married this past February at sunset on the High Roller Observation Wheel, 550 feet in the air overlooking the Las Vegas Strip. It was beautiful and unique and perfect for them.
They loved exploring and adventuring in nature. Krysta and Reed rented jeeps and side-by-sides and often added shooting to their adventure. They had the dream of owning trucks, four-wheelers, and other outdoor toys. They had hopes of expanding their camping gear so she and Reed could get outside even more often.
They adopted their fur baby, Bentley, in January of last year. They spent hours training him, taking him to the park, and even working out with him. Krysta worked from home a lot, and he was her favorite coworker. Bentley was their baby and they loved him like true proud parents.
Because she was fearless and ambitious, Krysta lived more in her short 28 years than most people do in a lifetime.
We find comfort in knowing that Krysta and Reed left this world together, doing what they loved. We have great faith that the two are enjoying their next adventure together, as always.
Krysta is survived by her dad and mom, Gary and Kathy Dettmann, her brother, Devan Dettmann, grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was greeted on the other side by her grandparents, Lloyd and Teddy Mergenthaler, and her uncle, Ken Mergenthaler.
Services will be Monday, July 18, at 1:00 p.m. at Church of the Good Shepherd in Loveland. In lieu of flowers, we are requesting a donation to the Alpine Rescue Team, who spent many hours on that mountain with Krysta and Reed. They are our heroes.
