Leonard Edward Michal was born on October 29, 1925, to John and Emma (Rohrick) Michal in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. On November 28, 1947, he married the love of his life, Ruth A. Kissler, and together they shared 77 wonderful years of marriage.
Leonard spent his life doing what he loved most - farming. After starting out in Bayard, Nebraska, he and Ruth moved their family in 1960 to a farm near Ault, Colorado, where he became an award-winning farmer. He was a high ten beet grower for eight years and received the sterling silver award of sugar bowls multiple years in a row. He was a proud member of the Eaton/Ault Congregational Church, where he served as trustee and usher, and he was actively involved in local farming and grazing associations.
Leonard and Ruth enjoyed square dancing and camping; sharing decades of adventures and friendships through the Merry Mixers, Mobile Squares, and camping clubs. They also traveled together on several memorable cruises, but home was always where Leonard's heart was. His shed was built to house their motorhome, but it was converted into a volleyball court every Wednesday night for family and friends.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; their children, Jim (Angie) Michal, Judy Michal, and Susan Scharrel; seven grandchildren - Jason (Sally) Scharrel, Xali (Rick) Sommer, Sandi Garbiso, Nichole (Jason) Drager; Jennifer Scharrel, Uri (Rebecca) Michal, and Jaime (Cory) Michal-Venn - and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Robert (Sue) Michal, and sister-in-law, Alma Michal.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma Michal; his brother, Melvin (Betty) Michal; John Michal, and his sister, Delores (Ruben) Schledewitz.
Leonard will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, devotion to family, and the joy he found in simple moments spent together. His life was a testament to kindness, faith, and the enduring spirit of a true farmer.
A visitation will be held from 10:00-10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2025 followed by a celebration of Leonard's life at 10:30 a.m. both at Eaton Community Church, 1561 Benjamin Dr., Eaton. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Greeley.
