Phil Mazur, 72, was born in Des Moines, IA. He was the 3rd of 4 sons to his parents, born to Theodore T. Mazur and Jean E. Mazur. Phil and his brothers, Theodore C., Michael, and Daniel spent most of their youth in Burlington, IA. After graduating from Burlington High School in 1969, Phil and his high school sweetheart, Margaret E. Kuisle, were both accepted at Colorado State University and moved to Fort Collins, CO to begin their college endeavor that same year. Going into his senior year, Phil married Margaret on September 16, 1972. He graduated in 1973 with a BS in Zoology. He interned with a local veterinarian before moving to Loveland, CO and accepting a full-time position at the Great Western Sugar Company factory as a Chemist. He later became an Assistant Land Surveyor at a local firm, Hogan and Olhausen, and worked on various civil and public works projects.
In a decision to venture out on his own and pursue a new career, Phil founded his land acquisition and relocation company Western States Land Services, Inc. in 1980. He pioneered his company services to many municipalities, counties, and public utility entities throughout Colorado, Wyoming, and Texas, including various highway projects with CDOT. He later obtained his certification as a Senior Right-of-Way Professional with the IRWA and CDOT qualification as an acquisition and relocation consultant. He continued his career for over 40 years until his passing at his home in Loveland.
Phil fathered 3 children, Marcus, Jennifer, and Justin, all of whom were born and raised in Loveland.
Phil was an avid outdoorsman. He particularly enjoyed his long-time fishing tradition with family and friends known as the “Voyagers” making many trips to Canada dating back to his youth.
Phil is survived by his wife of 52 years, 3 children, 3 brothers, and 3 grandchildren. Known for his copious amount of ingenuity, generosity, and selflessness, Phil will be dearly remembered by his family, friends, and work associates.
Preparation for a celebration of life for Phil Mazur is underway and will be scheduled at a later time.
