Ray grew up playing football and wrestling for Poudre High School. After high school he joined the US Marines, where he served in Vietnam. After he completed his service in the military, Ray married Cathy and they raised Jacob together and then had their daughter, Ruth and son, Tommy.
Ray is survived by his daughter, Ruth Schmidt; son, Tommy Schmidt and Jacob; brother, Harvey Schmidt and grandchild, Campbell Schmidt.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
