Rodney Lynn Dubbert, was 72. He was born February 14, 1950 in Beloit Kansas to Gerald and Doralyn Dubbert. He passed away peacefully the morning of Monday, June 20, 2022 with Renée by his side. Rod was diagnosed with cancer after being exposed to agent orange during his military service. He fought a long hard battle for over 9 years. His doctors said they had never seen someone as strong as he was.
Rod was raised on their family farm in Cawker City, Kansas. He enlisted in the US Navy when he was 18 and served for 4 years in the Vietnam War. Rod was assigned to the engineering department as an interior communications electrician and moved up in rank rapidly to a second-class petty officer E5, which was quite an honor. He returned home in 1972 with an Honorable Discharge.
He met the love of his life, Renée in San Diego, California in 1972 while still in the Navy when his orders were changed due to a fire on the ship. He said this was “fate.” They were married for 49 ½ years. He retired from AT&T after 31 years and moved to Colorado where his sons and their families lived. He continued his love of farming in Minneapolis Kansas, at the farm that Renée and he bought in 1976.
Rod enjoyed life to the fullest. He always loved visiting with people, and could talk for hours. Rod enjoyed helping others, he was a loyal friend to so many. He took great pride in being an honest and caring person. He deeply loved his family. Spending time with them was very important to him. His family was his greatest joy. He loved having the grandkids over and spending time reading to them and telling stories. He loved reading and studying Civil War history and the Kansas Buffalo hunt. He also loved antique collecting, making knives, Model T’s, Model A’s, and muscle cars. He loved farming, growing everything, especially his flowers.
He was especially grateful to God for the Blessing of making it back home from Vietnam to raise his wonderful family. He loved his boys and was so proud of them, and he dearly loved his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
