Ronald passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.
God took the strength of a mountain, the majesty of a tree.
The warmth of a summer sun, the calm of a quiet sea
The generous soul of nature, the comforting arm at night
The wisdom of the ages, the power of the eagle's flight
Then, God combined these qualities; there was nothing more to add. His masterpiece was now complete; He lovingly called it "Dad."
Ronald was born on March 19, 1936 to John H. and Olive I. (Scott) Sloan of Elwell, Colorado at the Sloan Family Farm. He was welcomed by his siblings Lawrence (deceased), Wanda (Krebill-deceased) and Annabelle (Cook). Ronald was a twin and joined his brother Donald (deceased) to conquer the world.
As a preterm baby, he fought hard to live life and succeded to do so by growing up on the Sloan Farm (est 1897) climbing trees and playing basketball in the barn loft. He worked hard on the dairy farm and loved working with and showing his 4H cattle. As a born competitor, he lettered all 4 years in football, basketball and track. During high school he lived the typical farm kid life of every morning doing farm chores before and after school as well as driving a school bus route his senior year. He was proud to attend Colorado State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts his freshman year.
He married Joanne (Eason) McGee of Longmont, Colorado on March 15, 1959. Ronald had excellent work ethic and while attending college he worked at Poudre Valley Dairy as a deliveryman, worked on the Fort Collins Country Club swimming pool and grounds as well as construction building I-25. Ronald earned hs Bachelors of Science at Colorado State University in 1960 and earned his Masters of Education in Physical Education at CSU as well.
He loved coaching and that was one of the greatest joys of his life with starting his career at Hillrose High School. He then went on to teach and coach at Cheyenne Wells, Colorado highlighted by attending a state conference championship in 65-66 in class A boys basketball with a 24-1 record and the Tigers had 3 league championships with a 57-10 record. He also coached baseball, football and track as well as teaching in Lakewood, Colorado; Scottsbluff, Nebraska and Springfield, Colorado. He was a mentor to many students and employees throughout his careers but also coached city league sports and his boys little league teams.
Ronald did retire from teaching and joined his father-in-law, David McGee at A&M Poultry in Longmont, Colorado. He did work many years in agriculture until retirement with Joanne in Loveland, Colorado and Johnstown.
Researching his Scots ancestory, fly fishing and following CSU Rams Basketball/Football, Rockies and Denver Broncos were a few of his many hobbies. Ronald was also a past memeber of the Longmont Lyons Club. The most important thing in his retirement was spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren attending many school functions and sporting events.
Ronald's wife, Joanne, recently predeceased him this August as well as his oldest son, Robin, in May 2016. He is survived by his two children, Troy and Stephanne (Turner); grandchildren and their spouses Danielle (John Morris); Rachel (Stephen Zitek) Brandon Turner (Jessica Graham), Nicholas Turner (Dianne), Noelle (Turner married to Cameron Johnston); great grandchildren Meetra Zitek and Johnny Morris; his beloved sister Annabelle (Cook), sister-in-law Barbara (Austin) as well a many nieces, nephews, family and beloved friends.
