On July 5th, 2021, Verna Linenberger passed on peacefully in the loving company of family. Verna has shared an unforgettable 87 years with her family and friends, with 67 of those spent with her beloved husband, Bernie. Verna was, appropriately, born in the spring of 1934 in the town of Wray, Colorado.
She would go on to live in numerous towns across Colorado and southern Wyoming, including Laramie, Golden, Fort Collins, and Loveland. On May 25th, 1954, she married the love of her life, Bernie. They met at her sister’s diner on Verna’s first day working there, where she was told, “I already have a boyfriend picked out for you.” They first saw each other as Verna was peeking out from the kitchen window to see just who her sister picked. Their two sons, Dean and Ben, were born in the years after. Verna was adventurous. She visited her son in Germany in the 1980s despite never having gone further than northern Mexico.
She was the first to buy a home computer and learn how to use it. She compiled a family genealogy using the internet, library resources, and sheer determination. She was a quick and creative wit, known for her clever comebacks and the annual gift-giving tradition that ranged from hiding money in books to locking it up in puzzles. Her grandchildren still talk about them.
She will be remembered fondly by Bernie, Dean, and his wife, Jolene Vanoort, Ben Linenberger, and his wife, Diane del Duca, her six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, and the many friends and neighbors she made throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and daughter-in-law. A gathering for those family and friends who wish to celebrate her life and memory in good company will be held at Dwayne Webster Veteran’s Park in Loveland, Colorado, from 1-4 pm on Sunday, July 18th.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.allnuttloveland.com for the Linenberger family.
