Bill was born June 7, 1940 to Frank and Genevieve (Gerleman) Rothmeyer in Winneshiek County, Iowa. He Graduated from St. Francis De Sales School in 1958. He grew up as one of seven children and learned early how to work hard on the local farms.
Bill married Donna Olsen in Indiana, January 1966. They raised two children together, Rick and Deanna. Bill later married Peggy Ankeny in November 1987. His family grew by two step children, Lyn and Joe.
Bill had a natural knack for electronics and owned/operated Bill’s TV and Repair Shop in his youth. In 1966 he further pursued his passion for electronics by moving to Loveland Colorado for employment with Hewlett Packard. Electronics and Mathematics were his ‘pleasure’ reading. He quickly surpassed his formal education, built his own computer when they were still rare and even taught Micro Processing at a local community college when it was the cutting edge of technology. Bill worked in Electronics for Hewlett Packard, Colorado Time Systems, Fiscal Information and Colorado Memory Systems but ultimately always went back to Hewlett Packard and retired from there with his gold badge.
During the electronic years he broke away from time to time to do over the road trucking, traveling the United States for Monfort and a few other outfits. He used to tease it was time to go trucking when everyone had heard all of his latest driving stories. After he retired from HP, Bill became an Owner Operator and continued to drive well into his seventies. Even after, he didn’t give up driving completely as he and Peggy bought a RV for travels. Once fully retired, he built the equivalent to a machine shop in his garage. He could be found there late into the night creating and solving mechanical issues. Breakfast was his favorite meal of the day and he was a regular at multiple establishments in town, enjoying it with friends and family.
Bill is survived by his Son Rick (Shelly) Rothmeyer, Daughter Deanna (Robin) Peckham, Step Daughter Lyn (Jay) Ankeny, Grandchildren Jesse (Amy) Rothmeyer, Emily Rothmeyer and Jaren (Caitlyn) Peckham, Great Grandchildren Emerson, Evelyn and Eleanor Rothmeyer, Brother Art Rothmeyer, many treasured Nieces and Nephews, along with his beloved kitties Izzy and Lizzy.
He was preceded in death by his Wife Peggy, Stepson Joe Ankeny, Sisters Jeannie Rothmeyer, Pat Grady, twin sister Betty Schnuelle and Brothers Jim Rothmeyer, Bob Rothmeyer.
His friends and family can join a memorial in his honor at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2025 at Allnutt Funeral Service-Hunter Chapel, 2100 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland.
