The world lost a true man of God on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Al Dooley Manny walked through the pearly gates of heaven to be reunited with his wife and parents, but most importantly to meet his Lord and Savior. Al was a one of a kind man that taught his children the importance of respect, integrity, manners and humility and it is with that legacy that his children and grandchildren will honorably carry on for the rest of their lives.
Al was born on September 14, 1938 in Crane, Texas to H.J. and Lois Manny. He graduated from Texas Military Institute in 1957 and started Texas Tech the following August. Tech is where he met the love of his life, Nancy Ruth Hunsucker and they eloped on August 22, 1958 and celebrated 60 years of marriage before her passing in March 2019. They started their family right away and welcomed their first daughter Alice on Father’s Day 1959 and welcomed second daughter Colleen in March 1965 and their son Cullen in May 1975. Al had many jobs in his lifetime but his first job was selling insurance for the Sanford Agency where he worked full time during the day and took night classes at Tech and proudly graduated in May 1970 with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting. He worked at several other insurance companies until he decided to start his own business, Al the Chimney Sweep. Other jobs included District Sales Manager for USA Today, selling cars at Frontier Dodge and Pioneer Lincoln Mercury, Golf Coordinator at Reese Golf Course and lastly as a courier for Prosperity Bank where he finally retired in July 2023. Al served as an elder at First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Lions Club.
He is survived by his children Alice (Ron) Schulz, Colleen (Bill) Waller and Cullen Manny, his grandchildren Geoffrey (Avery) Waller, Kelsey (Gerald) Salzarulo and Jayda Manny, his great-grandson, Branton Dooley Waller, and numerous nieces and nephews that he considered his own.
