

Until moving to Charlottesville, Virginia in 2006, Alice called Lubbock, Texas her home for over 40 years. She and her husband, Al, were long time members of St. Luke’s Methodist Church and its John Wesley Sunday School Class. They enjoyed many years of membership at Hillcrest Country Club.. She was a long time volunteer at Methodist Hospital and Lubbock General Hospital.
Alice was born on January 17, 1923 in New Castle, Pennsylvania to Orpha (Downs) and Norman Morse. She was the baby of the family and her sisters Virginia (Haney), Katherine (Thornberry), and brothers Norman and Lee doted on her. Early years were spent in various Pennsylvania cities but Toledo, Ohio became her hometown.
It was at a Halloween dance in Toledo in 1942 where she met and quickly fell in love with Alvin Stanley Hensley. They married on May 28, 1943. Daughter Judy was born during the war with second daughter Pat following three years later. Al’s job with GMAC took them to Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska and back to Texas. After retiring Alice and Al enjoyed many years in their travel trailer traveling the US and Canada, playing bridge and golf, fishing and dancing.
Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years on November 15, 2000.
Alice is survived by her daughters Judy Schultz and her husband Bob of Charlottesville, Virginia, Pat Moreland and her husband Mark of Hamilton, Montana; three grandchildren, Kristi O’Brien and her husband Charlie of Charlottesville, Virginia, Brett Moreland and his wife Kristine of Kirkland, Washington, Erin Commons and her husband Andy of Missoula, Montana; five great grandchildren, James and Patrick O’Brien, Lillian and Clara Commons, and Nash Moreland; and three sisters-in-law, Virginia Markus Koon, Bessie Morse, and Inez Hensley, and many nieces and nephews.
Our mother was a loving, kindhearted, gentle woman who inspired us right to the end with her always optimistic attitude. We would like to thank Rosewood Village at Hollymead, Dr. William Fox, and Legacy Hospice, all of Charlottesville, Virginia for their loving and compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 10:00a.m. in the Abbey Chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 W. 19th Street, Lubbock, Texas 79490, burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
