Alpha grew up in Lubbock and graduated from Lubbock High School in the class of 1962. She went on to attend Texas Tech University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in social work. She dedicated 28 years of her life to serving others through her career with Child Protective Services. After retiring, Alpha continued to enjoy working with children as a substitute teacher for Frenship ISD.
In 1968, Alpha married her husband, Daniel James Spence. Together, they raised two daughters, Danna and Traci, and built a life centered around family.
Alpha attended many churches throughout the years. She loved God deeply and, above all, had a personal relationship with Jesus. Her faith was an important part of her life and the way she cared for others.
Alpha was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Daniel.
She is survived by her oldest daughter, Danna Spence, and her daughter, Marley, of Lubbock; her youngest daughter, Traci McClead, and her husband, Tyson McClead, of Lakeway; and their children, Torrence, Reagan, and Grayson, and his wife, Jennifer, of Austin. She is also survived by her brother, Martin Nunley, and his wife, Sharla, along with their sons and their families. Alpha also leaves behind many nieces and nephews on Daniel’s side of the family. She took great pride in keeping up with her family and treasured the connections she shared with them.
Alpha will be remembered for her dedication to helping others, her love for her family, her faith in God, and the many lives she touched throughout her years. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Services will be held Friday, September 4, at 1:00 p.m. at Resthaven, with a short graveside service to follow. A family viewing will be held Thursday from 4:00–5:00 p.m. at Resthaven, followed by a public viewing from 5:00–8:00 p.m.
