OBITUARY

Anna Marie Wallace

July 6, 1931August 7, 2019

Mrs. Anna Marie Wallace was born to the late A. D. Joiner and Bessie Grayson-Joiner on July 6, 1931, in Freestone County. Anna was the youngest of six children, and during her younger years, she enjoyed spending time and helping her family work on the farm. She was lovingly referred to as “Honey” by her older brothers, and she adored them. One of her favorite things to do was skip rocks across the lake, while her mom attempted to fish. She often heard her mom saying, “Anna, stop throwing those rocks. You are going to scare the fish.”

In addition to enjoying time with family on the farm, she spent a few years with her older sister, Jenniel and her husband, Booker Gabrielle to attend school in Fort Worth, Texas. Not long after her return to Freestone County, she met Alfonzo Wallace of Paducah, Texas who introduced her to the Church of Christ. On November 15, 1947, the two were wed in Fairfield, Texas and began their journey together. To this union, five children were born: John Andrew, Linda Yvonne, Patricia Ann, Harold Wayne, and Rita Mae.

After Alfonzo’s death in 1959, Anna persevered, and by 1968, she had completed her education, became a Licensed Vocational Nurse, and purchased a house in which to raise her children in Lubbock, Texas. As a nurse, she worked for both West Texas and Methodist Hospitals in a career spanning 30 years.

As a faithful member of the Manhattan Heights Church of Christ in Lubbock, Texas, Anna’s reputation for being a kind, charitable woman grew. Her love for her brothers and sisters in Christ was always on display, but her main focus was on the well-being of children. Her love for children within the church and the community, was only surpassed by her love for her grandchildren. After working for years to raise her own children, Anna could not have been happier to meet her first grandchild, Anthony Ellis Johnson, who promptly gave her the name that all grandchildren to follow would lovingly call her, “Gigi”. She loved her grandchildren, and they adored her. She ensured that each of her grandchildren would get to know one another so well, that they would become more like siblings, than cousins. She instilled in her family the values of faith, love, and charity, as she devoted herself to raising and nurturing them in the House of the Lord.

Anna Marie Wallace entered into rest on Wednesday, August 7th in Rowlett, Texas. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Nathaniel, Adlene, Douglas, Jenniel, and Billy; husband: Alfonzo; children: Rita Mae, John Andrew, Linda Yvonne; daughter-in-law, Carol Wallace and granddaughter: Brenda Elaine Johnson

She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Patricia Ann Fareed (Lennis); her son, Harold Wayne (Carol), son-in-law, Earnest Peeples, Sr. (Linda) and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
