She was born on April 17, 1924 on the family farm in Stanton County, Nebraska, to Gertrude and Rudolph Browner. She was the third of their seven daughters. Anne graduated from Norfolk High School in 1942 and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where she was a dental assistant at Fort Warren.
There she met Army Lt. Tom Rowntree in November of 1943. They were married on February 13, 1944 in Amarillo, Texas. After WW2 was over, they lived in Amarillo before moving to Lubbock in 1953. Anne was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed membership in the Lubbock Women’s Club and Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority.
She was a devoted wife to her husband Tom, a homemaker and beloved mother to her four children, who survive her: Rita Stephens of Phoenix, AZ; Barry Rowntree, Wes Rowntree and wife Linda, all of Lubbock; and Christy Rollins and husband David, of Wolfforth; along with eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.
Anne was the last member of her generation in the family. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas A. Rowntree, her parents, six sisters and a son-in-law Norm Stephens. Pallbearers will be Wesley Rowntree, Ryan Stephens, Tony Liles, Aaron Liles, Drew Ervin, and Aaron Osborne.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home’s Tech Chapel on Monday, November 24, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with services in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev, Elizabeth Abraham. A reception afterwards will be in the Resthaven Parlor.
