Art worked in food sales for several years before becoming an independent insurance agent who traveled extensively for 25 years. In his later years he managed property for Dick and Jane Phillips, which he greatly enjoyed.
He was a man of faith who believed if you served God above all, loved and cared for your family, worked with integrity, and did all things as unto the Lord, then God would honor you because you honored Him. He knew how to have fun and to carry it into almost any situation, especially golf.
He has served in various capacities in church for 48 years and especially enjoyed working in missions. He loved people and was there to help when help was needed because he had a servant’s heart.
He and his wife, Nina, have been married 48 years and together they have four children; Taya Kirby and Steve, Jim Wright, Kimberly Kidd and Barry, Natalie Makujina and Nosh; nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
He is survived by his brother Marcus and his wife Tanya and sister Aleida and her husband Hal. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Gordon, and his parents Melvin and Virginia Charter.
Art was deeply loved and will be tremendously missed. The visitation will be June 10, 2026 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. His celebration of life will be on June 11 at 2:00 pm at First Church of the Nazarene.
