Arthur Sherwood Moyer passed and went home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2026. Arthur was born on May 2, 1937, in Reading, Pennsylvania and was the youngest of three children. Arthur had one older sister Madlyn, and an older brother Ralph.
Arthur worked odd jobs while in Pennsylvania. After a few years Arthur moved to California in search of better employment. Unable to find sustainable employment, Arthur at age 22 enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 2, 1959. Arthur was stationed around the world including Japan, and even in Iran as an advisor and trainer in the 1970’s. Arthur served two tours in Vietnam. He was stationed in Thailand in 1965-1966, and then in Na Trang, Vietnam in 1968-1969. Arthur worked in munitions and maintenance, and armament throughout his career working several aircraft platforms specifically the AC-119 and AC-47 gunships in Vietnam and Thailand. Arthur was the NCOIC of the miniguns on these platforms during the Vietnam War. Arthur retired from the United States Air Force on June 30, 1979, at K. I. Sawyer AFB in Michigan.
While Arthur was in the military he met his wife, Sybil Yvonne Kennedy through a mutual friend. Arthur and Sybil were married in 1973. After retiring from the military Arthur and Sybil moved back to Lubbock, Texas in 1979. Arthur eventually obtained a job with the City of Lubbock Traffic Engineering and eventually became the supervisor. Arthur retired from the City of Lubbock Traffic Engineering after 20 plus years of service with the city.
Arthur was passionate about woodworking and home repair. Arthur’s life was expressed by service. He was a faithful servant to the Lord. He attended Church on the Rock and Transformation Church for several years in both locations. Arthur was proud of his years in service in the United States Air Force and to the citizens of Lubbock, Texas.
Arthur was preceded in death by wife Sybil in 2021, Father Sylvanus Moyer, Mother Ethel Moyer, Sister Madlyn Snyder, Brother Ralph Moyer, and Granddaughter Meredith Kennedy Moyer.
Arthur leaves behind a devoted and loving family. 5 children, Monty Johnston (Judy) of Smyer, Texas, James Johnston of Smyer, Texas, Jacque Myatt (Sham) of Levelland, Texas, Scott Johnston (Melinda) of Lubbock, Texas, Kris Moyer (Renee’) of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Arthur has 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Arthur will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
A visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home In Lubbock, Texas on Wednesday, May 27th from 5 to 7pm. A memorial service will also be held at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock, Texas on Thursday May 28th at 10:00 am.
