Dr. Hinds was a member of the founding faculty of Lubbock Christian College in 1957, and served as choral conductor and Music Department chairman for 41 years. Upon retirement from Lubbock Christian University, he founded and directed the Hallelujah Chorus for an additional 12 years.
Dr. Hinds received his BA and MA from West Texas University, and his EdD from Peabody College in Nashville, TN. He also served in the US Navy from 1953-54, being stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leslie and Dean Hinds; and one sister, Helen.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Yvonne; five children and their spouses: Stuart Hinds, Clarice Paden (Phil), Randall Hinds (Dana), Annette Mahan (Karl), Robert Hinds (Lisa), fifteen grandchildren, and twenty-three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bob Hinds.
A Memorial Service will be held at the LCU McDonald/Moody Auditorium Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
A reception will follow at the LCU Baker Conference Center. Everyone is welcome!
Suggested memorial gifts can be given to Lubbock Christian University for the Wayne Hinds Endowed Scholarship that provides music scholarships for LCU students.
Known originally as “Brother Hinds”, Dr. Hinds was loved and honored by thousands of people, young and old, at home and abroad, as an outstanding example of love, faithfulness, and Christian leadership. He, along with his wife, Yvonne, made a team that was truly unstoppable. The vocal music he helped create in the lives of students has, for so many, become music of the heart that will live on forever.
