Benjamin (Benny) Franklin Bledsoe, lovingly known as Grandpa, of Lubbock, Texas, went home to Jesus on October 21, 2026, at the age of 86, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and love that will continue through generations of family and friends who were fortunate enough to know him.
Born on April 21,1940 in Gorman, Texas, Benny was the son of Blake and Lucille Bledsoe. Benny shared his life with his beloved wife, Barber Sue Patterson, affectionately known as Granie. They were married on November 18, 1961. Throughout his life Benny worked as a diesel mechanic. He believed in hard work, common sense, and helping others anytime you can. He was the kind of man who could fix just about anything, and he never looked down on someone who needed a helping hand. Outside of work, Benny enjoyed nothing more than visiting with family, friends, customers, and just about anyone willing to strike up a conversation. He never met a stranger and could find something to talk about with anyone.
Benny leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind a family strengthened by his example, a lifetime of lessons and stories that will never be forgotten, and the quiet reminder that one of the greatest gifts we can give someone are the tools to stand on their own two feet.
Benny is survived by his loving wife, Barber; his children, Chris McCandless and wife Suzette, Cary Saldana and husband Alfred, and Curtiss Bledsoe and wife Stacie; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, and one brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Tuesday, October 27th, 2026, at Resthaven Funeral Home. Services will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home's Abbey Chapel on Wednesday, October 28th, 2026, at 10am. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
