

Benny is survived by the love of his life and wife, of sixty years, Twila Smith Conger; two sons, Brian and his wife, Kay, Tommy and his wife, Tania; one daughter, Rhonda Grove and her husband, Alton “Tiny” all of Lubbock; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren with one on the way; two sisters, Johnnie McClure and her husband, Mitchell, Claudia Marshall both of Lubbock; and one brother, Billy Joe Conger of Sweetwater. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Conger and Claudia Randuea of Lubbock; two brothers, Bob Conger of Sweetwater and Baxter Wayne Conger of Lubbock.
Benny was born on October 30, 1932 in Westminster, Texas to Elmer and Claudia Conger. He graduated from Shallowater High School in 1951. He played baseball with the Detroit Tigers farm team, the Lubbock Hubbers until he joined the Navy during the Korean Conflict. Benny then attended Barber School in Amarillo and later became the owner/operator of Texas Avenue Barber Shop. He married Twila Smith, the love of his life in 1957. Over the next six years, the couple welcomed three children into their home. His wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren remember him as a loving, strong, kind, and patient man who loved the Lord and encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Benny joined the Lubbock Police Department in 1968 where he served the Lubbock community for 27 years. He was a dedicated individual who loved his family and friends. He was an active and dedicated member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Lubbock until his health began to fail.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Lubbock Police Honor Detail and Police Department. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Benny’s life.
