Betty was the daughter of Max Eugene and Tollie Bybee Rowland. She married A. E. (Al) Pitts, Jr. on August 9, 1946.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Al, and son, Jerry.
Betty is survived by her son, Tom Pitts, of Lubbock; daughter, Phyllis Teal, of Lubbock; and daughter-in-law, Virginia Pitts, of Katy, Texas; her grandsons, Todd Pitts and wife, Aimee, of Plano, David Pitts of Katy and Andrew Pitts of Austin. She is also survived by her beloved great-granddaughters, Taylor and Ryann Pitts of Plano.
Betty was an only child whose mother died at an early age. When she married Al, she inherited the Pitts' clan which gave her an instant family of ten brothers and sisters. This blessed her with many new family members whom she considered her brothers and sisters. She was also blessed by her wonderful cousins on her mother's side of the family.
Although her primary work was as homemaker for her family, Betty also worked as a secretary for B. J. Randles at Lubbock Monterey High School and John Byers, Petroleum Engineer before retiring. Betty was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and the John Wesley Sunday School class.
Betty bravely endured numerous health issues in her life and had so many successful surgeries by Dr. Donald J. Robertson that he swore off any future surgeries! She was treated for her multitude of conditions by several wonderful, caring physicians for whom the family is grateful. At the end of her life, she was well cared for by Garrett Smith, R.N., with Hospice of the South Plains and the ladies of Home Instead Health Care.
