Bill was born on August 23, 1933, in Wellington, Texas, to Joe and Lula Wauer. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1951 before proudly serving his country in the United States Army with the Infantry and Corps of Engineers.
On February 8, 1953, Bill married the love of his life, Vada Cook, of Wellington. They were the best of friends and built a strong faith-filled home together. Bill and Vada became the proud parents of six children. Their marriage was one of enduring love and devotion, and Vada truly was Bill's soulmate.
Following his military service, Bill attended Texas Tech University, where he majored in Civil Engineering. While pursuing his education, he worked part-time as a carpenter to help support his growing family. Bill graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
Bill dedicated his entire 29-year professional career to the engineering firm of Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, Inc. His talent, integrity, and leadership earned him the respect of his colleagues and the engineering community. In 1967, he received the Young Engineer of the Year Award from the South Plains Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. By the time he retired in 1989, he was serving as Vice President of Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, Inc.
While Bill was proud of his professional accomplishments, his greatest priorities were his faith and his family. He faithfully served as a deacon at Southcrest Baptist Church and lived out his Christian faith each day. He intentionally taught his children to love the Lord, leaving them an example of faithfulness that will continue for generations.
Bill is survived by his six children and their spouses: Susan and Clifton King of Amarillo; Mike and Susan Wauer of Spicewood; Donna and Royce Siebman of Childress; Patti and David Swaringen of Lubbock; Kevin and Laurette Wauer of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Karen and Randy Jeffcoat of Lubbock.
He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, with two more great-grandchild expected soon. His legacy lives on through each of them.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Lula Wauer; his nine siblings; his beloved wife, Vada; and one grandson, Daniel Jeffcoat.
Though our hearts are saddened by his passing, we celebrate a life well lived. His life was marked by faithful service to his country, excellence in his profession, unwavering devotion to his family, and steadfast faith in the Lord. Bill's influence will continue to be felt through the family he cherished, the lives he touched, and the example he set for all who knew him.
May we honor his memory by living with the same integrity, humility, faith, and love that he demonstrated throughout his life.
