

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church at 3708 45th Street, Lubbock. Nephews will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be members of Covenant LifeStyle Center. Entombment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 from 6-8 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Billy was born on July 23, 1930 in Erick, Oklahoma on the family farm where he resided for his childhood. His parents were William David and Anna Maude (Howard) Stewart. He graduated from Erick High School in 1948 and graduated from Oklahoma A&M in 1953 with his BA in Animal Husbandry. He then served in the U.S. Army, returning to Oklahoma and earning his Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics from Oklahoma State University in 1958. He married Wanda Dumas on June 12, 1958 in Ringling, Oklahoma and they began their life together in Mt. Vernon, TX where he worked for the Texas Extension Service Rural Development. He retired in 1994 as District Director of Farmers Home Administration after 34 years of service for the federal government. He worked as County Supervisor of Farmers Home Administration in Lynn and Garza Counties, spending 17 years in Tahoka.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wanda Stewart of Lubbock, one son, Curtis Howard Stewart and his wife Susan of Spade, one daughter Karen René Duffy and her husband John of Houston , four grandchildren, Collin Howard Stewart of Dallas, Cameron Hendrix Stewart of College Station, Allison René Duffy of San Marcos, and Jeremy Matthew Duffy of Houston, one brother, Bob Stewart and his wife Jane Ann of Amarillo and two sister-in-laws, Mae Ola Stewart of Hollis, OK and Edith Groomer of Ft. Worth, four nieces and fourteen nephews and many friends and family members.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
