Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Monday February 06th, 2023 at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel in Lubbock, TX. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. She was born on September 05th 1939 in Putnam TX to Billie Hall and Ruth Erlene (McMillan) Walls. She married Harvey Darrell Hackney on December 25th, 1958 in Baird, TX . She enjoyed the early years of her marriage raising their three children as a loving wife and homemaker. She and Darrell lived and raised their family in several communities across the Texas Panhandle, eventually settling in Childress, TX. Her early work career, out of the home, started in Amarillo, TX as a Nutritional Consultant and she worked as a Sales Consultant at S&H Greenstamp Store in Childress, TX.
As a talented artist and ceramicist, Billye opened Mud House Ceramics Shop in Childress, TX where she was a Certified Duncan Ceramics Teacher. She taught ceramics classes and sessions to help those interested in ceramics at any level with her business becoming a community favorite with artist of all ages who enjoyed the social get together of creating art. After leaving Childress TX, Billye became interested the art of custom framing and worked as an expert framer and manager for two privately owned framing studios and was the Framing Department Manager for Hobby Lobby/Lubbock until Darrell’s death in 2010.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Erlene, both of Lubbock TX, her husband Darrell of 52 years, also from Lubbock; her grandson Matthew Kyle Evans (US Army, Special Forces SFC) of Pinehurst, NC. Those left to cherish her memories are brother David Walls and wife Tammy of Lubbock; sisters Gwen Walls and Katy Worley both from Gatesville, TX. Her children; daughter Jamie Baker and husband Marion of Canyon TX; son David Hackney and wife Marie of Portland, OR; and daughter Tammy Evans of Lubbock, TX. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Lake Evans of Lubbock; Zachary Flores (US Army SGT) of Fort Drum, NY; Grayson Hackney of Austin, TX and Sara Jane Hackney of Portland, ME; and three wonderfully beautiful great grandchildren who she adored tremendously.
The family would like to express their gratitude to those who committed their attention to ensuring her care and comfort during her battle with cancer for the last 9 mos. Specifically to Calvert and the staff who provided home care and loving attention to her needs; to Joe Arrington Cancer Center and the staff for their support during treatments and to the Covenant Oncology Nursing staff on E7 who gave her 110% of their attention when she needed it most.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that contributions or gifts be made to the Joe Arrington Cancer Research and Treatment Center of Lubbock; or to Calvert Home Health and Hospice of Lubbock.
