

Bobbie Carolyn Barker, 83, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 14, 2014. She is predeceased by her husband, Harold “Chuck” Barker, and her son, John Charles Russell. She is survived by her daughter, Nena Russell Akers and her husband Rick; step-son, Doug Barker and his wife Janie; and step-daughter, Kathy Burge and her husband Richard. She had nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Carolyn was born on May 30, 1931, in Munday, Texas and raised by her grandparents, John and Lina Bowden. She grew up on a rural farm in Munday and lived her entire life in Texas.
Carolyn began college at Mary Hardin Baylor University and later transferred to Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, where she majored in music. She was a talented pianist and organist for multiple churches in Amarillo and Lubbock, director of junior choir, and taught private piano lessons in-home until beginning a career with Methodist Hospital in 1967. Carolyn retired from Methodist Hospital in 1992 after 25 years of faithful service.
Carolyn and her husband Chuck were passionate about their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They loved to travel and collected guns, rare military uniforms and memorabilia, Indian artifacts and other unique historical items.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22, 2014 at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 22, 2014, from 11:00a.m. to 1:00 pm.
