

Carol passed away and went to heaven to be with the love of her life Mac McWhorter.\
Carol was a wonderful, giving and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was born to Mildred and Bill McKelvy of Lubbock. A lifelong resident of Lubbock she was very active in the community with numerous organizations. Her involvement includes: The CH Foundation past president and trustee; Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts (LHUCA) past president and board members; St. Mary Foundation Gala past Chairman; Women of excellence Awards (YWCA) past chairman; Cattle Barons Ball, American Cancer Society past chairman; Lubbock Arts Festival, cultural Affairs Council, Lubbock Chamber of Commerce past chairman; Museum of Texas Tech University past trustee and CH Foundation representative. She is a proud graduate of Texas Tech University with a degree in Mass Communications major and a minor in Fine Arts. Carol had a long career at the Lubbock Avalanche Journal from 1975-2005. She was director of Sales and Marketing from 1997-2005.
Carol enjoyed going to Texas Tech University games and other community events with her beloved Mac. She traveled to many places over the world with her parents and Mac and friends. Carol and Mac loved to cook for family and friends and entertain at their lovely house. She also enjoyed gardening throughout the years and would piddle in the yard with Mac. In addition to being a gourmet cook she was also an accomplished musician and artist. Carol truly cherished time with her family and creating wonderful memories with all of them.
Carol’s family include her daughter Dawn Harral and husband Jeff of San Antonio, their daughter Allie Silva and her husband Pablo and children: Pablo, Sofia and Emilia. Mac’s daughters Meghan Sewell and husband Collin of Odessa, and their sons Meacham, Harris and Nolan. Kathleen Cain and her husband Will of Dallas, and their sons Charlie and West. She was preceded in death by her parents Mildred and Bill McKelvy , her husband Owen (Mac) McWhorter and son Chris Harmel.
Carol married her prince Mac McWhorter on November 23,1985 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lubbock surrounded by their families. What a joy it was to see both of them to find their partner in life and be so happy together.
The family of Carol McWhorter would like to thank all of the people who have taken care of her in the past few years. A celebration of Carol’s life will be at 10am at St. Paul’s on the Plains Episcopal Church on August 25, 2022.
