Carole was born April 9, 1947, in Groom, Texas, to Ralph and Sybil Tharp. She married the love of her life, Randall Cates, on April 28, 1972. Their story began long before their wedding day; they had known each other since childhood, when Carole was six years old and Randall was eight. Together they built a life centered around family and love.
On September 17, 1973, they welcomed their only child, a daughter named Cappi. Carole enjoyed playing bingo and trying her luck with the Texas Lottery, but nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her grandsons, who were truly her pride and joy and meant the world to her.
She is survived by her daughter, Cappi Phillips and husband Eric of Canyon, Texas; her grandsons, Slade Phillips and wife Baylee of Aubrey, Texas, and Brody Phillips and his fiancée Madison Lindesmith of Canyon, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 49 years, Randall Cates.
A funeral service will be held Monday, March 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Rest Haven Chapel, 5740 19th St., Lubbock, Texas, with graveside services to follow. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
Carole will be remembered for her love of family, her warmth, and the joy she found in life’s simple moments. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
