Carolyn Sue McCasland

Carolyn Sue McCasland, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, was born on October 6, 1939, in Clovis, New Mexico, to Otto and Sue Crow. From the very beginning, Carolyn brought a special light into the lives of those around her—a light that would remain with her throughout her life and continue through the many people who loved her.

Carolyn grew up in Clovis, NM where she was a high school cheerleader, played the piano, and married her high school sweetheart, Billy Max McCasland, on June 2, 1957. She met Billy in junior high; however, Billy fondly recalled seeing her in the third grade and lovingly referred to her as his beautiful bride until he passed. They were married for 56 years and were members of the Church of Christ in Clovis.

Carolyn and Billy lived in Las Cruces, NM, Pueblo, CO, and Hereford, TX before settling in Clovis, NM. After Billy passed away in February of 2014, Carolyn later moved to Lubbock, Texas in 2019. She was a member of South Plains Church of Christ until her death.

Carolyn was an artist who loved painting beautiful scenery and western art. She was a fabulous cook, and she learned the skill from her mother-in-law, Aline McCasland. She loved hosting holidays and celebrations where she provided a beautiful tablescape to match the occasion. One of her favorite get-togethers was the week of the Pioneer Days Rodeo when she would host family and friends for dinner prior to the event.

Carolyn and Billy were in the cattle business for thirty plus years. She was a homemaker while Billy and the boys tended to the cattle and chores. In the early 1980's, Carolyn and Billy got into the real estate business where they started Rio Properties, Inc. Carolyn was hands-on managing their properties for over forty years, which also included cleaning them on occasion.

Carolyn was always eager to learn something new. She earned her associate's degree in business and obtained her real estate license later in life. She recently stated that she wanted to learn how to play the harmonica. She enjoyed traveling with her girlfriends when she had the opportunity.

Carolyn was a woman who could make an ordinary moment feel special. She was fun-loving, positive, kind, graceful, and energetic. But perhaps one of the things people will remember most about Carolyn was her wonderful sense of humor. She was funny in a way that was uniquely her own, and she had an ability to make people smile and laugh simply by being herself. She was fashionable and always looked put together, often color coordinating her outfit, shoes, and purses. She's been referred to as a "spark" and a "live wire" and lived life to the fullest with a positive attitude, always looking forward to tomorrow. She passed away with curlers in her hair ready for the next day.

Carolyn shared 56 years of love and companionship with her husband, Billy McCasland. Together, they built their family and raised three sons north of town, Ellis, Casey, and Bud McCasland. Carolyn took great pride in her family, and the love she had for her children remained an important part of who she was throughout her life.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Billy McCasland, her parents, Otto and Sue Crow, and her in-laws, Z and Aline McCasland.

Carolyn is survived by her three sons, Ellis McCasland of Lubbock, Texas, Casey McCasland of Clovis, New Mexico and Bud McCasland of Clovis New Mexico, three grandchildren, Carli Layton (Lance Layton), Katy Jo Carson (Cody Carson), and Parker McCasland; six great-grandchildren, Layne Layton, Gentry Layton, Jack Layton, Beck Layton, Walker Carson, and Wyatt Carson. Carolyn is also survived by her sister, Betty Isham of Fayetteville, Arkansas and her niece, Carol Jane Phillips, whom she loved dearly.

She will be missed more than words can express, remembered with laughter and tears, and loved always.

A Celebration of Life for Carolyn Sue McCasland will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel, 6025 82nd Street, Lubbock, Texas. There will also be a service held in Clovis, NM where she spent most of her life, on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the West 21st Street Church of Christ, 1720 W. 21 Street, in Clovis, New Mexico. Two services are being provided as a convenience for those who wish to attend and avoid travel.

Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate Carolyn’s life, share memories, and honor the remarkable woman she was.
