Carolyn Nell Hunnicutt Tucker, 94, of Idalou, Texas passed peacefully from her earthly home into the loving arms of Jesus, and into the joyful embrace of many waiting family and friends, on June 27, 2025.
Born August 31, 1930, in Girard, Texas, Carolyn was the beloved daughter of Nona Johnston Hunnicutt and William Thomas Hunnicutt. As the only girl among seven brothers and the next-to-youngest of her siblings, Carolyn’s childhood was filled with the warmth and bustle of a large, close-knit family. She grew up on a small farm between Jayton and Girard during the challenging years of the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and World War II. Carolyn often marveled at the many changes she witnessed in her lifetime—remarking with wonder at the “innovations for convenience” that transformed daily life, from the arrival of electricity and indoor plumbing to the magic of black-and-white television, and later color TV, computers, and telephones.
Carolyn was the devoted and loving wife of Dewey Dale Tucker, whom she married 73 years ago on February 9, 1952. Their love story began when Carolyn was a telephone operator and Dewey a switchman for Southwestern Bell. Together, they built a life rich in love, laughter, and adventure, raising four children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, all seven brothers, and two infant children.
She is survived by her loving husband and children: Neil Tucker and wife Sheila, Kelly Motl, Shelly Robinson and husband Kelly, and Gary Tucker and wife Kaci. Carolyn and Dewey treasured family trips to the lake and the mountains, a tradition they continued long after their children were grown, exploring the country with family and friends by their side.
Carolyn’s greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She was a constant and loving presence in their lives—a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, a devoted Room Mother, a talented seamstress who could craft or alter anything with her skilled hands, and the family’s biggest sports fan, cheering on loved ones and favorite teams alike. Her kitchen was always open, and her table always full, welcoming anyone who stopped by with a warm meal and a loving heart. Her grandsons once joked that someone needed to go to “gravy school at Grandma’s”—a testament to the cherished memories made around her table.
A longtime member of the Idalou Civic and Culture Club, Carolyn was deeply involved in her community and always eager to lend a helping hand.
She leaves behind seven grandchildren whom she adored: Jake Tucker and wife Molly, Alison Rowin and husband Josh, Kamdon Robinson and wife Krista, Karson Robinson and wife Heather, Kalee Robinson, Amy Griffin and husband Grady, and Eric Tucker and wife Stephanie. Her fifteen great-grandchildren brought her endless joy, each visit lighting up her heart.
Carolyn is also survived by her dear sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Anna Loren Hunnicutt of Waco, as well as many nieces and nephews whose lives she touched with her kindness and love. Family was always at the center of Carolyn’s world, and she cherished each and every one, living and deceased.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Jake Tucker, Josh Rowin, Kamdon Robinson, Karson Robinson, Grady Griffin, and Eric Tucker.
Carolyn’s legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
