Buster was born on January 3, 1930 in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. At the age of 20, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was subsequently stationed at Weathersfield AFB in England. It was there that Buster met and married his British bride, Marie Anders. After many travels, they eventually settled in San Antonio, Texas, where Buster became a training instructor for Air Force recruits.
After his retirement from the Air Force in 1972, Buster and Marie lived several places, but chose Lubbock, Texas to become their retirement home. Buster was actively involved with helping others, including volunteering for Meals on Wheels and visitation at various nursing homes. Buster had a passion for gardening and took great pride in maintaining the family home. He never met a stranger and was loved by many.
Buster is survived by his wife, Marie; his children, Kim DeYoung (Joe), Sharon Giesler, and Joe Nuckolls (Sarah); seven grandchildren, Shannon Hanson-Higgins (Steve), Kelly Hill (Jason), Daniel Nuckolls, Matthew Nuckolls (Lynsie), Jordin Giesler, Shelby Nuckolls, and MacKenzie Nuckolls; ten great-grandchildren, Kennedy Hanson, Merin Higgins, Ainsley Higgins, Nickolas Hill, Molly Hill, Colby Hill, Baylen Hill, Cooper Nuckolls, Cannon Nuckolls, and Everleigh Nuckolls; and a nephew, Wayne Nuckolls (Diane).
The family would like to thank everyone at Wilshire Place and Wedgewood South in Lubbock for the care, support, and love given to Buster during his final days. In addition, the family would like to express its appreciation to Hospice of the South Plains.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels of Lubbock.
