Carter M. Wiechmann, 71, Lubbock, formerly of Rochester, Minnesota passed away and was called home to the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, November 16 in Lubbock, Texas after a courageous battle with brain cancer with his wife by his side. Born on June 21, 1947 at the Mayo Clinic, Carter made his home in Lubbock with the love of his life, Helen. The couple was married on July 9, 1966 in Spring Grove, Minnesota and had three children, Michael, Deborah and David.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Helen; his three children and their spouses Michael and Sandra Wiechmann, Deborah and Casey Reese and David and Meaghan Wiechmann and his grandchildren Catherine and Michael Wiechmann Jr., Caleigh and Caleb Reese and siblings Ronald and Marge Wiechmann, Cordy and Chuck Heroff, Candy and Ray Weis, sister in-law Charlotte Wiechmann. In-laws include Joan and Tom Baumgardner, Carrie Solberg, whose husband Paul is deceased, Dorothy and Lyle Bacon, Mary Newgaard, Butch and Sylvia Myhre, Lolly and Dwight Perkins, Wayne and Sue Myhre and Gordon Myhre along with numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Harold and Myrtle Wiechmann and siblings Dennis and wife Kitty Wiechmann and Leeland Wiechmann.
In life, Carter never met a stranger and always had a welcoming smile or joke. He volunteered at his church as a greeter and usher. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren participate in sports and playing golf with his friends. Always the salesman and entertainer he was the first one on the dance floor at any wedding he attended and stole the show with his “papa bear” dance.
Family and friends will gather for a visitation at 5 p.m. Tuesday, November 20 at Resthaven Funeral Home with a memorial service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 21 at Shepherd King Lutheran Church with burial services to follow at Resthaven.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to either the American Cancer Society or to Shepherd King Lutheran Church in Carter’s honor.
