He was born in 1930, an authentic Texan, from a line of Bartons that settled the Texas frontier before it was a republic or had thoughts of statehood. In true Texas fashion, Charles attended Texas Tech University, served his country in the US Army for more than 30 years, raised a fine family, and shared his zest for life with friends around the world. Those who knew him will tell stories of him and know they were better for having had him in their lives.
He leaves his lovely wife, Johnnie Ward Barton of Lubbock along with her family who embraced him as one of their own; his three children, Jerilee, Jeff and Jan from his first marriage to Naidean Frost Barton, along with six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He may be gone from our sight but will never be gone from our hearts.
Celebration of life services will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Redbud Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers Charles has requested memorial donations be made to Accolade Hospice.
