Charles Wayne Hargrove Jr., affectionately known by all who loved him as “Charlie,” passed away on May 9, 2026, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family. He was born on February 19, 1957, in Lubbock, Texas, to Charles Wayne Sr. and Janice Hargrove. From an early age, Charlie displayed the qualities that would define his life — determination, humility, compassion, faith, and an unmatched work ethic.
Charlie lived a life devoted to God, family, and service to others. He was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, faithful brother, respected businessman, and trusted friend. The impact he made on those around him cannot be measured, because Charlie never simply existed in people’s lives — he showed up for them, carried them through difficult times, and loved them wholeheartedly.
One of the greatest blessings of Charlie’s life was his marriage to his beloved wife, Renée Hargrove. Together they shared nearly 36 years of marriage filled with love, loyalty, laughter, and unwavering commitment. May 26th would have marked their 36th wedding anniversary. Through every season of life, Charlie and Renée built a strong and faithful partnership centered on love, sacrifice, and family values. Together they raised four children: Stacey Weber, Diana Hargrove, Robert White, C.J. Hargrove and 11 grandchildren all of whom were deeply loved and supported by their father and grandfather.
Charlie is also survived by his siblings, Anson Hargrove and his wife Cassandra, Carol Pevey and her husband Rick, and his sister-in-law Carrie Hargrove. He also had many nieces and nephews who thought Uncle Charlie was one of the best, along with many extended family members, lifelong friends, church family, and all whose lives were forever touched by his kindness and wisdom.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Wayne Hargrove Sr. and Janice Hargrove; his beloved son, C.J. Hargrove; and his brother and best friend, Deke Hargrove.
Charlie was truly one of a kind. He was the type of man who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need, never expecting anything in return. He believed in working hard, keeping his word, taking responsibility, and treating others with dignity and respect. Those who knew him admired his strength, integrity, and quiet humility. He never ran from responsibility and never hesitated to step in when someone needed help. Whether offering guidance, encouragement, a helping hand, or simply his presence, Charlie made people feel cared for and valued.
His faith in God was the foundation of his life. Charlie faithfully served as a deacon at Trinity Church, where he devoted himself to serving the congregation and leading by example. He was a godly man whose faith was not only spoken but lived out daily through his actions, compassion, and servant’s heart. He believed deeply in loving others, honoring God, and doing what was right even when no one was watching.
Charlie’s incredible work ethic began at an astonishingly young age. He started painting when he was only four years old, learning from his father the trade that would eventually become his lifelong profession. Over the years, he became a highly respected commercial paint contractor known for his craftsmanship, reliability, and pride in his work. Painting was more than a job to Charlie — it was a reflection of his dedication and commitment to excellence. He believed that anything worth doing was worth doing right, and that mindset carried into every aspect of his life.
Outside of work and family, Charlie had a deep passion for sports cars. He took great pride in his collection and enjoyed restoring, caring for, and showcasing his vehicles. One of his beloved Corvettes even earned “Best of Show,” an achievement that brought him great joy and reflected his attention to detail and appreciation for craftsmanship. He also loved basketball and enjoyed sharing that passion with friends and family throughout his life.
Charlie’s accomplishments began long before adulthood. He graduated at the top of his class from Coronado High School, a testament to both his intelligence and determination. He was also a proud Eagle Scout, an honor that reflected the character, leadership, discipline, and service-minded spirit he carried throughout his entire life.
Above all else, Charlie will be remembered for the way he loved people. He was a protector, provider, mentor, and role model. He leaves behind a powerful legacy of faith, generosity, hard work, and unconditional love. His family and friends will forever carry the lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely.
While his passing leaves an immeasurable void, those who knew Charlie find comfort in knowing that his life was one well lived — a life built on faith, integrity, sacrifice, and love. His legacy will continue through the countless lives he touched and the family he cherished so deeply.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on May 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Church, located at 7002 Canton Avenue in Lubbock, Texas.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
