Charles (Buddy) Reid was born in Newport, Arkansas on Jan. 3, 1931, and was the fifth child of George Lee and Gladys Adah Reid. In 1946, his family moved to Benton, Arkansas, where he attended his junior and senior year of high school. He enjoyed many happy times while in Benton, and even met his future wife. He married his high school sweetheart, Charlene Smithers, on Christmas Day 1952.
Buddy graduated from Arkansas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Education. He began his career as a teacher in El Dorado, Arkansas. He also served eight years in the National Guard while in college and in El Dorado. After three years of teaching, Buddy continued his career as a draftsman for manufacturing and defense companies. Work brought him to Richardson, Texas, where he lived for over 50 years.
Buddy was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church Richardson. He loved woodworking, both building and restoring furniture for friends and family. He is remembered fondly for making and giving away canes to other seniors.
Buddy was preceded in death in 2007 by his beloved wife, Charlene. He is survived by two sons: Mark and his wife Janis, of Plano, and their two sons Marcus and Ben; and David, of Lubbock, and his two children, Samantha and Mackenzie; and two great granddaughters, Clarke and Emily.
