Charlie was raised in Petersburg,TX and after graduation moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University. He enlisted in the Army after college and did 18-months in Vietnam. Upon his return, he married and began his family. He considered Lubbock and the community his home and spent years building relationships and working endeavors to make the community better.
Charlie was first and foremost a man of God and thanked the Good Lord daily for watching over him and for the blessings in his life. He was the greatest example of someone who loved unconditionally: his God, country, family, friends, and fellow veterans. He bled the Red and Black, a loyal Texas Tech fan since his days as a Saddle Tramp. He loved his family and never wasted an opportunity to share stories or pictures of them. Charlie was a founding member of the Lubbock chapter of the Honor Flight. He was so proud of the work he did to honor and support all veterans.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 54-years, Donna Scarborough, his two children Traci (Scarborough) Byrd and Trey Scarborough, six grandchildren Shey, Megan, Cole, Bailey, Tristan, and Gentry, and his younger brother David Scarborough.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, August 2, 2024 at 11:00 at Lakeridge United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, we are asking for support in sponsoring a veteran on the Honor Flight.
