Charles U. “Chuck” Spaugh, 87, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026. He was born June 18, 1939, in McKinney, Texas, to Lessie B. Johnson and Byron Udell “Joe” Spaugh. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister, Willia Dean Brown, all of McKinney, as well as his beloved wife, Peggy Sue Spaugh, who died in 2024. He has a niece, Gayle Bauer, and nephew, Billy Charles Brown, living in McKinney, Texas.
The family will host a time of visitation from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Resthaven Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Chuck’s life at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at LakeRidge Methodist Church.
Chuck attended high school in Dallas, Texas, and graduated in 1957. He later toured several states as a guitarist with a band. After earning his optician certification, he worked in Del Rio and Big Spring, Texas, before moving to Brownfield, where he opened his own music store. He spent more than 25 years in radio and television broadcasting, then founded an advertising agency in Lubbock. In later years, he worked as an automobile dealer and excelled in sales throughout his career. Chuck was a proud member of LakeRidge Methodist Church, where he and his wife, Peggy, worshipped for more than 25 years. For many years, he shared his passion and musical talent as a member of the church’s praise and worship team. He will be remembered for his love of music and guitar, as well as his enthusiasm for sports, boating, motorcycles, tennis, and golf.
Chuck married Linda Marie Spaugh January 31, 1963, and is survived by his 5-children, Chuck Spaugh Jr., Lisa Spaugh Dillard, Libby Spaugh Williams (Darby), Stepson Coy Hopson (Sharon), Stepdaughter Dianna McAlister, and his grandchildren; Jack Dillard (Kim), Kati Walker (Jordan), Jami Dillard, Derek Williams (Ashley), Tucker Hopson, Travis Hopson (Malia), Chase McAlister, Cassie Flynn (Tim), Chet Spaugh, and Rachel Spaugh. He enjoyed visits with his great grandchildren, Karis, Ian, Braelyn and Sylvia Dillard, Davis and Drew Flynn, Layla, Macon, Bliss, Molly Walker, Lysander, Briseida Keco and Tripp James Hopson.
Chuck also had a caring Stepdaughter, Rhonda Dillard (Dale), grandson Michael Carter (Emily), step granddaughters, Brooke Frizzell (Michael), Brandi Kinsey (Trey), Jacy Carrillo (Obi), step grandsons, Tyler Carter, Douglas Tyler, Lee Tyler (Michelle), and DJ Tyler. Chuck’s wife Peggy Sue Spaugh (Deceased 2024) was also blessed with 11 great grandchildren: Rileigh Carter, Cole Carter, Bayli Carr, Maddison Frizzell, Lennon Kinsey, Jaleigh Hudzieth, Bryson Carrillo, Carter Carrillo, Charlie Carter, Sophie Tyler, Logan Tyler. Great, great grandchildren include Hayli Frizzell Contreras and Jadyn Carr.
Chuck and his family want to thank his team of personal care providers; Melinda Mercado, Betty Torrez and Aurora Cabello.
