Charley Joe Pierson, 83 years old, left this world on December 31, 2021, in Lubbock, Texas to join his Heavenly Father, mother, father, sisters and brothers in Heaven. Joe graduated from Springlake-Earth High School and enlisted in the US Army. He served for 10 years with 1 year in Vietnam and fourteen and a half months in the Dominican Republic and the rest mostly at Ft. Rucker, Alabama working on and flying in the first Huey Helicopters. He survived 4 crashes and many hard landings but had no serious injuries. He then came back to Lubbock and became a Lubbock Police Officer for 30 years and retired as a Sgt. While in the Police Department, he helped create and oversee the Field Training Officers Program to help educate and train young officers to become better officers to keep up with the current times and prepare for the future. He also attended Texas Tech University and graduated from Wayland Baptist University to get his BS in Sociology. Along with other courses, Joe received his Master Peace Officer Certificate from the State of Texas. The day after he retired from the Lubbock Police Department, he was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff for Dickens County Sheriff Ken Brendle. He worked for Dickens County for 7 ½ years. Joe had a total of 38 years in law enforcement. Joe’s goal in life was to “protect and serve” his country, The United States of America, the counties and cities in the Great State of Texas, and especially West Texas!
After a few years of retirement, he got a golf cart and began Mr. Joe’s driving school for some of the neighbors' children in the neighborhood where he and his wife, Gwyn, lived. He tried to teach them that safety comes first and simple driving skills, to stay in school, study hard, get good grades and go on to college to have a better chance in life.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents Lee and Ethel Mae, 2 infant brothers Carl Edward and Billy Ray, his siblings Henning, Jessie, Mary Jane and Linda Marie. Joe is survived by his loving wife Gwyn of 50 years, his 3 daughters Gaye, and husband Doug, Jeannie and Ann, and 7 grandchildren Amanda, Hannah, Joseph, Chris, Thom, Alex and Elizabeth, 4 great-grandchildren Brody, Alexis, MaryBella, and Mikey, brother Jackie, sister Nina and stepsister Cathy.
