Charlotte was born on January 30, 1946 to Grover and Juanita (Nita) Walker in Longview, Texas.
After Charlotte graduated from Yoakum High School in Yoakum, Texas, in 1964, she went on to study Art and Humanities at Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos, Texas.
In 1969, Charlotte was introduced, by a family friend, at Greenlawn Church of Christ, in Lubbock, Texas, to Ronald Eugene Dover. They married later that same year on July 5th.
Charlotte and Ron went on to have two daughters, Rhonda and Charla. For over a decade, Charlotte "stayed home" raising her daughters, making school lunches, attending every school function, ceremony, and games they were involved in. She encouraged them to participate in activities outside of school like swimming, church youth group, music, and sports.
Also, during this time, Charlotte was involved with the women of Greenlawn. She attended Ladies Bible Class, helped make cookies and mints for special occasions, and attended baby and wedding showers because she felt everyone should feel honored.
Charlotte was a living example, to her daughters, of how to show gratitude, be selfless, be hard-working, be kind to people, and seek a relationship with God.
Charlotte worked as substitute teacher at the private school her daughters attended. Later, she took over as lead custodian until she retired.
Charlotte and Ron had several businesses together throughout their marriage. They bought, renovated, and sold houses as well as owning a few rental properties. Later, Charlotte helped Ron with his car business, RonDo Motors, until he retired.
In Charlotte’s last seven years of life, she spent her time taking care of her mother and husband.
Charlotte was predeceased by her father, Grover Charles Walker, and her in-laws Katherine Cunningham Dover and Luther Jackson (LJ) Dover. She is survived by her husband of over 53 years, Ronald Eugene Dover; mother, Juanita Walker of Lubbock, Texas; daughters, Rhonda Dover of Nashville, Tennessee and Charla Mathes and husband Gregory of Carrollton, Virginia; grandchildren, Delaney Mathes and Holden Mathes of Carrollton, Virginia; brothers, Jack Walker of Garland, Texas, and Scott Walker of Kyle, Texas; sister-in-laws, Karen Bryant and Linda Mitchell both of Midlothian, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and Jeremy Ray Ball of Ashland City, Tennessee.
Charlotte’s daughters would like to thank the caring and patient nurses, the friendly Housekeeping Staff, Food Service Attendants, and Doctors at Covenant, South Tower, Floor 5. We would also like to thank the extremely caring and thoughtful Palliative Care Team and Chaplin at Covenant. Thank you to the nurses at The Garrison who were kind and patient during our mother’s short stay.
A private celebration of life will be held, with family, at a later date.
Our mother selflessly gave to others who were in less fortunate situations. Giving to others was a part of her daily life. Please share a random act of kindness with someone you know or a stranger to honor our mother.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations of food, clothes, and some household items be donated to The Blessing Center, at Greenlawn Church of Christ.
