

Cherry Dent Ryan, 55, passed away Sunday April 29, 2012 from a sudden and fatal brain bleed in Lubbock, TX. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 10am at Green Lawn Church of Christ in Lubbock, TX, officiated by Robby Rhodes. Immediately following the service there will be a short visitation with the family at Green Lawn. In lieu of flowers donations may be made on behalf of Cherry to Lubbock Christian Schools 2604 Dover Ave. Lubbock TX 79407 or Lubbock Christian University 5601 W. 19th St. Lubbock, TX. 79407 to honor her love of children and education.
Cherry was born January 14, 1957 in Littlefield, TX to T.L. “Mike” and Agnes Dent and was the fifth of six children. She was preceded in death by her father, T.L. “Mike” Dent and her brother, Mikey Dent. She is survived by her mother, Agnes Dent, of Lubbock, TX and siblings; Joe Dent and wife Dianna of Double Oak, TX and their 3 children, Cathy Bonds of Austin, TX and her 3 children, Connie Dent Fulbright and husband Michael of Lubbock, TX and their 3 children, Fawn Dent Musick and husband Kerry of Wolfforth, TX and their 7 children.
Cherry trusted in her savior the Lord Jesus Christ and followed Him all of the days of her life. On January 27, 2001, she wed Jim Ryan and they were happily married for 11 years. Cherry had eight children. Cerise Powers and husband Adam of Lubbock, TX, Samuel Eaton and wife Mandy of Frisco, TX, Seth Eaton, Shaw Eaton, Manny Ryan, Crystal Ryan, Brenna Ryan, and James Ryan all of Lubbock, TX. She had two grandchildren, Calledyn Powers and Cambria Powers of Lubbock, TX.
Throughout her life, Cherry attended Lubbock Christian University, Pepperdine University, the University of Hawaii, University of Texas Permian Basin, and Texas Tech University. She completed a Bachelors Degree and two Masters Degrees and at the time of her death was working toward her PhD in Counseling Education. In college, Cherry was a member of the Christliche Damen club, Aggie Bells, Meistersingers Choir, and in her recent Graduate work, a member of Chi Sigma Iota, Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International.
She was a teacher for over 20 years and had a great love for children and education. She retired from teaching and school administration and became an entrepreneur, running a business taking care of individuals with developmental disabilities.
Cherry was an enthusiastic woman who in turn led a full life and in her spare time she loved reading, watching movies, and being with her family. She enjoyed lively conversations with everyone around her, as she never met a stranger her whole life, and she was always looking for the next great traveling adventure with those she loved. She was a member of Green Lawn Church of Christ in Lubbock, Texas and was very connected to her church family.
