Chloma Burk

Born Chloma Clarice Todd on September 8, 1932, in Richland Springs, Texas, she was the daughter of Earl Jackson Todd and Opal Clarice Vardeman Todd. Raised with the enduring values of faith, humility, and hard work, Chloma carried those principles with quiet grace throughout her life.

After graduating from Brady High School, Chloma attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she performed as a line twirler with the Longhorn Band. The confidence and grace she displayed as a young woman were matched by a quiet humility, genuine warmth, and steadfast faith that became the hallmarks of her character throughout her life.

On August 16, 1952, Chloma married John William Burk in Brady, Texas. Together they shared sixty-three years of devoted marriage, building a home where faith was lived, family was cherished, and everyone who entered felt welcomed and loved. Through every season of life, they built a life marked by faith, hospitality, and a love for serving others.

Nothing brought Chloma greater joy than being with her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, and the heart of her home. Through her quiet encouragement, gentle wisdom, and generous spirit, she made everyone feel welcomed, cherished, and deeply loved.

Chloma was a faithful Christian whose love for Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. As a devoted member of Lakeridge Methodist Church, she faithfully taught Sunday School and Bible studies for many years, sharing God’s Word with humility, compassion, and conviction. More than what she taught, however, was the way she lived. Through her kindness, patience, gracious spirit, and genuine acceptance of others, she quietly touched countless lives—many more than she ever realized.

Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. She was their greatest encourager, offering confidence when they doubted themselves, reassurance when life became difficult, and unwavering love through every season of life. They always knew she believed in them, prayed for them, and celebrated their accomplishments with genuine joy.

Chloma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John William Burk; her parents, Earl and Opal Todd; her sister, Patricia Johnson; and her brother, Doyle Todd.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Ricky Lynn Burk and wife Sharon of Lubbock; Johnna Burk Elms and husband Kip of Canyon; Susan Burk Stokes and husband Daryl of Wyandotte, Michigan; and Jeffrey Scott Burk and wife LeeAnne of Flower Mound. She also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren – Krista, Kimberly, Katy, Evan, Amy, Addie, Benjamin, and Jefferson – and nine treasured great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Randy Rozean, Dr. Kelly Mitchell, and Dr. James Grattan, whose compassionate care and medical guidance were such a blessing to Chloma throughout her final years. We are equally grateful to her devoted nurses, Judith Boomer and Marcy Overbeck, and to her special caregiver and companion, Dimeata Williams, whose gentle presence, encouragement and unwavering care brought comfort to Chloma and peace to our family. We will forever be thankful for the dignity, respect, and genuine love each of you showed her every day.

Those who were blessed to know Chloma will remember her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and the quiet way she made everyone feel loved. Her greatest legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the faith she so faithfully lived, and the countless lives she touched with grace, kindness and unconditional love.
