

He was the son of Heston Kyle and Stella Kyle and was born in Booneville, Arkansas. The family moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1933. He attended Lubbock public schools and graduated from Lubbock High School after serving as an Army medic in the Ko-rean War and later received a bachelor's degree in education from Texas Tech. He was a long-time director of the Optimist Boys Club and John W. Wilson branch of the Boys and Girls Club. He was honored by the opening of the C.H. Kyle Teen Room at the Wilson branch and served as an advisor in many of its activities.
After retirement, he continued to work as a part-time substitute teacher and a security guard for the American State Bank downtown location, where he retired after 17 years. He was a member of the Downtown Bible Class and First Baptist Church. He looked forward for many years to playing golf with his high school buddies and friends and enjoyed painting. He was very active in many of his high school reunions. He was known for his extensive sports library and enjoyed Jack Dale's Sportsline radio talk show for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bobby Henderson, uncle Winton "Cowboy" Kyle and niece Donna Van Beekum. Survivors include his sister Frances Van Beekum, three nephews and two nieces and their families, and cousin Karen Ray.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lubbock Boys and Girls Club and Downtown Bible Class. The family wishes to thank Lubbock Hospitality Nursing Home for his excellent care during his stay and Dr. Ayman Karkoutly for his life-giving care for many years.
Family visitation will be at Resthaven Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6-8 pm followed by funeral services at 2 pm on Tuesday in Resthaven’s Mausoleum Chapel.
