

The family of Darrell Johnson will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm Thursday, October 29, 2020, in the Hospitality Room at Southcrest Baptist Church. Please enter through Door B. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 69 years at 11 am on Friday, October 30, 2020, at Southcrest Baptist Church. Committal services will be on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at 4 pm in the Addison Family Cemetery in Turkey Creek, LA. Darrell went home to be with Jesus on Monday, October 26, 2020. In support of the health of everyone attending, face coverings are mandatory while attending the service and visitation. The service will be live-streamed and be available for thirty days on this page, where you are encouraged to sign the virtual guestbook and share memories and expressions of sympathy.Darrell was born on February 4, 1951, to Monroe Luckett and Velter Zula Johnson in Ville Platte, LA. He was the best husband, father, Pop-Pop, and friend a family could have ever dreamed of having. He was successful in every endeavor, but never called attention to himself. He loved his family unconditionally. Darrell led a full and meaningful life. His marriage to Barbara produced 2 precious children and 6 perfect grands. He enjoyed the many summer vacations with the grands. They all piled into the SUV and PopPop chauffeured everyone to Florida, Branson, St Louis, Dallas, and Colorado Springs, laughing all the way.Darrell had two 23-year careers and a degree in Criminal Justice Administration. As a security policeman in the USAF from 1969-1992, he was stationed in Nebraska, Okinawa, Louisiana, Arkansas, Holland, Turkey, England, and Lubbock. He gleaned many, many awards among which were The Daughters of the Revolution (DAR) for civic duty and Senior NCO of the year at Reese, AFB, not once but twice!!! 1989 and 1991.After the Air Force, from 1992-2015 he helped open and was the assistant director of Lubbock County Community Corrections Facility where he helped probationers rehabilitate their lives.In retirement, Darrell went on numerous missionary trips including Vietnam and Amman, Jordon. He also worked with Texas Baptist Men in disaster relief and continued to serve his church as a deacon and security team “heavy” greeter.His family takes great comfort in knowing that his salvation was secure and he is now reunited with loved ones and worshiping our Jesus.Survivors include his wife, Barbara; daughter, Loree Butler and husband Brent of San Antonio; son, Andy Johnson and wife Sara of Odessa; grandchildren, Chris, Rachel, Matthew and Emily Butler and Emerson and Berkley Johnson; sister, Linda Miller and husband Don of Georgetown, TX; brothers, Terry Johnson and wife Patsy of Lake Charles, LA, and Lannie Johnson and wife GayNell of LeCompte, LAHe is preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law Faith and Leon Clark and brothers, Aubrey Johnson and O.E. Elliott.
