Dean Newsom

Dean Newsom, 75, of Lubbock, passed away March 15, 2013. He was born to Sylvan and Mildred Newsom on September 27, 1937 in Fredrick, OK. Dean married the love of his life, Mary Tompkins, on March 13, 1959. He was a devoted member of the First Church of the Nazarene for over fifty years and enjoyed ministering to the youth. Dean also worked for State Farm for thirty two years as an insurance agent.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Sylvan and Mildred. Mr. Newsom is survived by his wife of fifty four years; Mary Newsom of Lubbock, daughter; Deana (Dale) Thorup of Kansas City, grandson; Logan Thorup of Kansas City, great granddaughter; Cali Marie Thorup, brothers; Lyndel Newsom of Menifee, CA and Troy Newsom of Caldwell, ID, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 20th from 6-8pm at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Thursday, March 21st at the First Church of the Nazarene located at 6110 Chicago at 2:00pm. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene’s building fund.
