Della Moreland

Della was born on February 12, 1942, in Carbon, Texas to Alton and Methal Thompson, the youngest of eight children. Though born in Texas, her family moved to Morenci, Arizona when she was two years old, and she carried a love for the Sunset State for the rest of her days.

Della married John Tate Moreland on June 11th, 1958. They had two children, Sharon Colleen Moreland and John William Moreland.

Della was a valued employee at High Plains Bag, almost single-handedly running the day to day operations of both the plant and business sides for more than thirty years. Her true passion, however, was as a seamstress. She loved sewing, quilting, tatting, and all the work one can do with their hands and at a Surger or a Singer. She shared this passion with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, from making Halloween costumes and graduation dresses to teaching them how such skills could be applied in the real world.

She is predeceased by her husband; her brothers and sisters, including her best friend Gloria Pettit; and her daughter Sharon. She is survived by her son, John; her grandchildren Derek, Joshua, and Kate; and her great grandchildren, PJ, Elizabeth, and Marisol.

The family will be holding a Celebration of Life at Resthaven Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 5740 19th St, Lubbock, TX on Thursday, September 17th, at 2PM. All who loved Della and wish to remember her are welcome.
