Born on July 27, 1938, in Girard, Texas, to John and Curtie Ayers, lived a life centered on family, steady work, and the everyday joys that made a house a home. She graduated from Ropesville High School with the Class of 1956 and went on to attend Hardin-Simmons University. She then began what became her life’s work as a payroll clerk for Texas Tech University, serving in that position with long-standing dedication.
Delores was a woman whose time and attention were deeply devoted to her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was dedicated to them throughout her life. Her beautiful smile will be remembered by those who knew her, as will the care she gave to the people closest to her.
She is survived by her brother, Jack Ayers; her children, Jill Carey and daughter-in-law Geneva Condarco, John Carey, and Jeff Carey; her grandchildren, Tarah Carey, Chyla Carey, Alley Carey, Dylan Carey, Megan Carey, Tanner Carey, Paige Carey, Colton Carey, and Sarah Carey; her great-grandchildren, Levi Carey, Logan Carey, Greyson Carey, Bryson Carey, Jetson Carey, Mckenna Carey, Rylan Carey, Timberland Carey, Maverick Carey, Shiloh Carey, and Knight Carey; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Curtie Ayers, John Ayers, J.T. Ayers, Katheryn Ayers, Ann Ayers, TW Ayers, Ronnie Ayers, and Cindi Carey.
Among the things Delores especially enjoyed were shopping, decorating her house, working in her yard, and taking trips to Ruidoso. These interests reflected the way she lived—finding satisfaction in caring for her home, enjoying time away, and remaining connected to the people and places that mattered to her. She had three children, and much of her life focus remained with her family across the generations.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Women’s Protective Services.
The family would like to thank Calvert Home Hospice, Rachael and Jaxon with Resthaven Funeral Home, and Keith Ayers for officiating. Delores Carey will be remembered with love by her family and by those whose lives were part of hers.
