Born in San Diego, California while his father was working there for Consolodated Vultee Aircraft Corporation facility during WW-II, Dickie was a large baby. When he was 1-1/2 years old, the plant where his father worked shut down and the family returned to their home state of Texas, southeast of Bonham, near Gober. After his third birthday, the family moved to Lubbock, Texas, where his father worked as a mechanic until retiring and moving back to Bonham. His mother was primarily a stay-a-home mother.
Dickie received special schooling at Bean Elementary, with additional training before spending his whole career working for Paul Bush, at Lubbock Electric Company (LECO), retiring in 2011. Although being married for a short time, Dickie had no children. He attended many years at Southcrest Baptist Church until his move into Serendipity Nursing Home in 2023. He remained in Lubbock until his death.
Dickie was preceded in death by his parents, Delvin D. (d.-1995) & Hazel L.(d.-2007) Pilkinton; two older brothers, Donald E. (d.-2002) & Gary M. (d.-2022); one sister, Hazel (Nita) J. Bevers (d.-2025), and one sister-in-law, Donald's wife Carolyn Y. Surviving brothers are Lawrence (Larry) K. & James (Mac) M. Pilkinton, both of whom reside in central Texas, in or around Austin; and two surviving sister-in-laws, Gary's widow Nancy E. Pilkinton and Larry's wife Thelma G, both also living central Texas. He also has several nephews, neices and cousins who survive his passing.
Dickie was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and cousin, adored and appreciated by all, and will be fondly remembered for his loving presence moving forward.
