Dixon was born in Meadow, Tx. on August 13, 1925 to William Burl (Happy) Wagnon and Morna Estelle Duke Wagnon.
Dixon (Dick) grew up in Bailey County, starting school in Lazbuddie, Tx. and graduating from Muleshoe High School in 1942. He attended Texas Tech as an electrical Engineer major until he volunteered for the war effort. Dixon was commissioned as an officer and trained as a Navy pilot during WWII.
On December 16, 1945, Dixon married his childhood sweetheart, Wynelle Eskridge. They were married almost 70 years. Dixon was a member of the Church of Christ, attending the Sunset congregation since 1956. With his wife’s support, Dixon created many successful careers; owning a wholesale candy distributorship, a logging business in Colorado, Trafalger Homes, Lubbock’s first home and garden center “Buddy’s” and Wagnon-Griffith Insurance Agency. Hay farming and grass seeding thousands or acres of the rolling plains area defined Dixon’s retirement. A former award winning toastmaster, Dixon was renowned for his clever wit and storytelling expertise, only eclipsed by his legendary skills as a great dry fly fisherman.
Dixon was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter, Jennifer Julianne Wagnon, and son-in-law, Ron Stowe.
Dixon is survived by his devoted wife, Wynelle; his son, Stan Wagnon (Maryann); Daughter, Kay Wagnon-Holder, of Lubbock; his Daughter, Lauren Stowe of Pfluggerville, his Grandchildren: Brian Wagnon (Dana), Colin Holder, Rhealan Wagnon Hensley (Chris), Ali Stowe, Aaron Stowe, Victoria Stowe, Nathan Stowe, and Great Grandchildren, Preslee Wagnon and Reese Wagnon. Also surviving are brothers William Burl Wagnon Jr, Lubbock, and Joe Mack Wagnon (Beverly) of Oklahoma City.
