
Hubert Donald “Don” Boyd passed from this life on November 5th, 2018. A time of fellowship and remembrance is scheduled from 5:30 ~ 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 7th, 2018 at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 84 years on Thursday, November 8th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Monterey Church of Christ. Don was born on December 22nd, 1933 to Hubert and Velma Boyd in Lubbock, Texas. He was raised in Lubbock and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1952. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Air Force and served for four years. After his service, he went on to attend Texas Tech University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. On June 10th, 1962, Don married the love of his life, Barbara Waltrip in Morton, Texas at First United Methodist Church.In 1965, Don re-enlisted in the US Air Force where he served with distinction for more than 20 years. During his Air Force career, Don rose to the rank of Major and flew C-130 transport missions during the war in Vietnam, while he and his family were stationed in Taichung, Taiwan. Later, while stationed in Alabama, Don worked to receive his MBA from Auburn University in 1973. In 1978, he returned home to Lubbock as a T-38 instructor pilot and commander of the ACE squadron at Reese Air Force base. After retiring from the US Air Force in 1981, Don began his second career as a computer information systems instructor at South Plains College. He taught CIS classes for several years at South Plains, until he retired for a second time in 2001.Don was also a faithful member of Monterey Church of Christ for over 40 years, serving as a ministry leader and performing other duties in support of the church. His love of Jesus and deep understanding of the Bible was evident to all he met.Don leaves behind his wife, Barbara Boyd; children, Bridget Ann Eubanks and husband, Bill; and Rebecca Don Ewings; grandchildren, Trey and Tyler Eubanks; and Blake and Erin Ewings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Velma Boyd; and sister, Glenna Louise Esmond.
