

Don Millard Burney, 87, slipped quietly into the arms of Jesus surrounded by family on Friday, October 29, 2021, after a long, valiant battle with Parkinson’s disease. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God carried him and ultimately gave him peace.Don was born to the late Joe and Ruby Mae Burney in Snyder, Texas, on March 13, 1934. His family settled in Dora, New Mexico where they immersed in farming. After graduating from Dora High School, he attended Eastern New Mexico University on a basketball scholarship. During college, Don met Marilyn Ford and they were married on February 17, 1955. After college, he entered the insurance profession. He sold his business, Insurance Associates, to Alan Henry in 1989, continuing to work with the Henry Agency until his recent decline in health. Over the years, Don enjoyed dancing with Marilyn, golfing, attending all Texas Tech sporting events, and most of all making memories with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.Don was preceded in death by his parents, son Bruce, brothers Webster, Wayland, and Joe Rue.He is survived by his wife Marilyn of 67 years, daughter Brandi Doss, granddaughters Brogan Hene and her husband Russell, Blaze Shipley and her husband Jaxon, Brooklyn Burney, and Brettley Burney, great-grandsons Stone, Worth, Steiner, Rove, and great-granddaughter Haze. There were also many nieces, nephews, and countless friends.The family would like to express their gratitude to Hailey, Julie, and Amanda, and Traditions Hospice. The love and support they have shown each of us has been a true gift.Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2021, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.
