Dorcus J Gatlin

Dorcas and her twin sister were the last of 13 children to be born to Walter and Nellie Hitt. She also had six half siblings and four step-siblings. She grew up on large farm south of Wolfforth and graduated from Frenship High School, where she played basketball. She married the love of her life, Gene Gatlin, on December 31, 1946 and later had two children. Dorcas was a loving and enthusiastic wife and mother! She achieved her life-long dream of becoming a nurse and cared for many until her retirement. She was a wonderful example of Christ-like love and everyone was inspired by her joy, laughter, and friendship. Her legacy of tremendous faith, unending support, and encouragement is remembered by her children, Rod Gatlin, Jill and her husband Rod Curry; granddaughters, Christin Curry, Tiffany and her husband, Craig Nell. Dorcas adored and doted on her great-grandchildren Austin, Lauren, Cooper and Ashton. She leaves behind several generations of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Meals on Wheels or The Children’s Home of Lubbock.
